  • Geometry: A lower control arm (wishbone) is used to locate the wheel laterally and longitudinally, while the strut handles the vertical loads and steering pivot movement.

  • Performance Limits: During aggressive cornering, MacPherson struts may experience greater camber change compared to double-wishbone setups, which can limit ultimate tire contact patch optimization in high-performance applications.

  • Component Replacement: When replacing struts, it is standard practice to inspect the coil springs and strut mounts, as the entire assembly is often under significant spring tension and requires a strut compressor for safe disassembly.
